Youth Firefighters in Hattersheim Experience 24-Hour Simulation of Professional Firefighting
Youth firefighters from Hattersheim, Okriftel, and Eddersheim participated in a 24-hour simulation of professional firefighting duties, including training exercises and emergency scenarios.
From Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM to Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM, young participants from Hattersheim, Okriftel, and Eddersheim took part in the annual ‘Day as a Firefighter’ event. Organized by the Hattersheim Fire Department, the program simulated the daily routine of professional firefighters, including training sessions, emergency drills, and communal activities. The participants stayed overnight at their respective fire stations, responding to simulated alarms and working as a team to tackle various challenges.
The event featured a range of realistic scenarios designed to reflect the diverse responsibilities of firefighters. These included rescuing a trapped person from a barn, responding to simulated traffic accidents on Im Gotthelf Street and a parking lot on Stettiner Street, and saving an animal from a tree in the Eddersheimer Main Meadows. Additional drills involved handling triggered fire alarms and a simulated hazardous materials incident at the Hattersheim outdoor swimming pool. Even after nightfall, the exercises continued with search-and-rescue missions and fire response operations, requiring participants to adapt to new situations and collaborate effectively.
The highlight of the weekend was a joint exercise involving all three youth fire brigades on Saturday afternoon at the Hattersheim recycling center. The scenario included a simulated apartment fire with two missing persons, rescuing an individual from a car pit, and extinguishing an outdoor fire involving an injured person. According to Svenja Baum, the city’s youth fire brigade leader, the event allowed participants to apply their training, build teamwork skills, and gain valuable experience. The Hattersheim Fire Department expressed gratitude to the organizers and supporters of the event and apologized to residents for any disruptions caused by the exercise vehicles and simulated emergencies.
