Ukrainian President Zelensky calls for domestic production of Patriot missiles following devastating Russian strikes.

After the latest massive Russian attack on Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged the establishment of domestic production facilities for Patriot air-defense missiles. In a video address, Zelensky emphasized the need for Ukraine to produce these missiles locally, potentially in collaboration with European partners, to better protect lives and counter the growing missile shortage exacerbated by the Iran conflict.

Zelensky hopes the U.S. will grant Ukraine a license to manufacture Patriot missiles, similar to the joint venture between MBDA Germany and Raytheon in Bavaria. Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has identified the shortage of missiles for Patriot systems as a critical challenge. Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has reached out to nearly 40 partner nations, requesting immediate supplies of Patriot missiles in exchange for future deliveries. Meanwhile, Russian attacks on Kyiv have left nearly 30 dead and overwhelmed Ukraine’s air defenses, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced capabilities.
