Weapons Cache Linked to Alleged Attack Plot Discovered Near Berlin

German authorities have uncovered a weapons cache near Berlin, believed to be linked to plans for a potential attack. A suspect, currently detained in Romania, is under investigation for espionage and plotting a major criminal act.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced the discovery of a hidden weapons depot in a forest near Berlin, which authorities suspect was intended for use in an attack. The cache contained two firearms and ammunition, which were rendered non-operational by security forces to neutralize any immediate threat. The site was subsequently monitored, but no individuals attempted to retrieve the weapons.

A suspect has been identified and is currently in custody in Romania. Authorities are investigating the individual for alleged espionage and preparation of a serious act threatening state security. While Dobrindt refrained from disclosing the suspect’s nationality, he described the individual as a ‘low-level agent.’ The possibility of foreign state involvement has not been ruled out, though no specific details were provided.

Reports suggest that German intelligence had been aware of the weapons cache since October last year. While no concrete information about the intended target has emerged, Dobrindt emphasized the high level of threat posed by such incidents. Investigations are ongoing, with officials working to determine the full scope of the plot and any potential connections to foreign intelligence operations.
