U.S. Supreme Court Ruling Spurs Massive Tariff Refunds to German Companies

German firms have received nearly €800 million in tariff refunds following a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that struck down controversial trade duties imposed by former President Donald Trump.

A recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling has led to significant tariff refunds for German companies, with the total reimbursements exceeding €790 million. The decision, handed down in February 2026, declared certain trade duties imposed by former President Donald Trump as unlawful, citing an overreach of executive authority. The refunds have provided financial relief to numerous sectors, including logistics, healthcare, and manufacturing.

Among the beneficiaries, logistics giant DHL received the largest refund, totaling €416 million. The company announced plans to pass these funds on to affected customers. Other notable recipients include Siemens Healthineers, which secured €200 million, and Sartorius, which received €26 million. The medical and safety equipment manufacturer Dräger also reported a refund of €22 million. These payments mark a significant financial windfall for German firms impacted by the tariffs.

The U.S. government has refunded approximately $81.3 billion in tariffs globally between October 2025 and June 2026, with German companies among the major beneficiaries. Sportswear brands like Puma and Adidas have also reported substantial refunds, with Puma receiving €49 million and Adidas expecting up to $300 million. Analysts anticipate further payments in the coming months as the fallout from the Supreme Court decision continues to unfold.
