Three Shootings in Berlin in One Day Amid Escalating Clan Violence
Berlin witnessed three separate shootings on October 27, highlighting a surge in organized clan-related violence and extortion attempts.
On October 27, Berlin experienced three shootings in different districts, underscoring a troubling escalation in organized clan-related violence. At 7:45 PM in Lichtenrade’s Nahariyastraße, a 47-year-old man was critically injured after being shot multiple times by an unidentified assailant. Around the same time, four gunshots were fired at Falkenseer Platz in Spandau following a car being forced off the road by two other vehicles. Police officers nearby arrested four men aged between 21 and 31 shortly after the incident. Later that evening in Staaken, also in Spandau, a 22-year-old discovered multiple bullet holes in his parked car, which authorities suspect were part of an extortion attempt.
The shootings are believed to be linked to organized crime groups engaging in extortion schemes. According to investigators, these groups demand large sums of money from business owners, often under the guise of offering protection. If payments are not made, victims face intimidation tactics, including gunfire targeting their businesses or property. The perpetrators are reportedly connected to the Turkish-Kurdish community, with key figures operating from abroad, primarily in Turkey, while their associates are based in Berlin. Victims often include owners of supermarkets, barbershops, and shisha bars, many of whom share similar ethnic backgrounds.
Police statistics reveal a sharp increase in gun-related incidents in Berlin, with 1,119 cases recorded in 2025, marking a 68% rise compared to the previous year. In the first half of 2026 alone, 65 shootings were reported, resulting in 118 victims and two fatalities. Authorities have expressed concern over the potential risk to bystanders during these violent acts. In response, specialized units such as ‘Ferrum’ and ‘Telum’ have been established by the police and public prosecutor’s office to combat this growing threat. Since their inception, over 720 investigations have been launched, with more than 480 cases actively pursued.
