Supreme Court Rulings Prove U.S. Rule of Law Stands Firm

The U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decisions show it remains independent, even against former President Trump’s expectations.

The U.S. Supreme Court has delivered rulings that both support and oppose former President Donald Trump, demonstrating its independence from political pressures. Despite fears that the court’s conservative majority, shaped by three Trump-appointed justices, might align with his agenda, recent decisions have proven otherwise. A notable ruling upheld the constitutional principle of birthright citizenship, rejecting Trump’s attempt to deny citizenship to children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants or tourists.

Other rulings have been mixed. The court allowed the rejection of asylum seekers at the border and the termination of temporary protected status for certain groups, aligning with Trump’s policies. However, it also permitted the counting of mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day, against Trump’s wishes, and protected the Federal Reserve from presidential interference. These decisions underscore that while the Supreme Court cannot singlehandedly safeguard the separation of powers, it remains a critical pillar of America’s democracy.
