Rising Reports of Right-Wing Extremism in German Military
Reports of right-wing extremism within the German military have increased, with 302 cases investigated in 2025.
The German Ministry of Defense has revealed a rise in reports of right-wing extremist incidents within the Bundeswehr. In 2025, 302 cases were investigated, up from 280 the previous year. These incidents involved approximately 350 individuals, with over 90 personnel dismissed. However, not all dismissals were directly linked to extremist allegations.
Reported incidents ranged from racist remarks and Nazi symbols to participation in extremist events and sharing offensive content online. Notably, 65 soldiers were accused of performing the Hitler salute, though fewer than ten cases were confirmed. Specific military bases, such as Stetten am kalten Markt and Neubiberg, saw concentrated reports. The data, obtained through a parliamentary inquiry, highlights ongoing challenges in addressing extremism within the ranks.
