The Police Union expresses concern over potential insufficient police presence during the AfD party congress in Erfurt due to expected large-scale protests.

The AfD is set to hold its federal party congress on July 4-5 in Erfurt, with various groups, including The Left and trade unions, planning around 30 protests, anticipating up to 50,000 demonstrators.

Jochen Kopelke, head of the Police Union, highlighted risks of inadequate police deployment, citing increased strain on forces since the pandemic and the potential for violence among 2,000 to 2,500 protesters, fueled by the congress’s historical timing.
