Police Crack Down on Grooming Gangs
Authorities in Nuremberg intensify efforts against grooming gangs, arresting four men linked to drug abuse and sexual exploitation of minors.
In a significant breakthrough against organized crime, police in Nuremberg have arrested four additional suspects connected to grooming gangs operating near the city’s central train station. The arrests, carried out by the specialized task force ‘EKO Kajal,’ mark a critical step in dismantling networks accused of exploiting minors through drug dependency and sexual abuse.
The suspects, aged 18 and 26, are Pakistani nationals who were apprehended in separate locations within Fürth and Erlangen. Both men face serious allegations, including distributing narcotics to minors and, in one case, committing sexual violence against young victims. Following their arrests, the individuals were transferred to correctional facilities under existing warrants. Investigators also uncovered evidence suggesting that some victims were coerced into prostitution.
Earlier in the week, ‘EKO Kajal’ announced the detention of two other suspects, both Syrian nationals, who are now in pretrial custody. These arrests followed a raid on a residence linked to the suspects, where authorities discovered a cache of drugs, including cocaine and crystal meth, alongside €2,000 in cash. Disturbingly, evidence of child sexual abuse was also found during the operation.
The task force, established five weeks ago, has been instrumental in addressing the alarming rise of grooming gangs targeting vulnerable minors around Nuremberg’s Hauptbahnhof. Investigators believe these criminal groups deliberately addict young girls and women to hard drugs, exploiting their dependency to perpetrate sexual violence. To date, eight suspects have been arrested and detained, signaling a robust response to this deeply troubling issue.
The police’s proactive measures underscore the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for community vigilance. While the arrests represent progress, authorities stress that the fight against grooming gangs is far from over. Public cooperation and awareness remain vital in ensuring the safety of vulnerable individuals and dismantling these predatory networks.
