Over 80 organizations in Germany have united to provide urgent support for individuals targeted by far-right violence, offering legal, financial, and advisory assistance.

A newly expanded coalition of unions, religious groups, sports associations, and human rights organizations has pledged comprehensive support for victims of far-right violence in Germany. The initiative aims to aid individuals facing threats, harassment, or physical attacks due to their engagement in promoting democracy and human rights. A solidarity agreement signed by over 80 organizations formalizes their commitment to provide swift access to legal, financial, and advisory services following incidents such as targeted attacks or intimidation campaigns.

The alliance, named ‘Together for Democracy,’ was established in 2024 and is now ramping up its efforts amid rising concerns over extremist threats. Its approach includes public displays of solidarity alongside practical aid, ensuring those affected by hate campaigns or violent assaults receive immediate and adequate support. Leaders stressed the importance of reinforcing democratic values and countering intimidation, particularly for community volunteers and cultural activists who are often singled out for their advocacy work.

Germany has witnessed a troubling increase in far-right violence, with official data showing a nine percent rise in extremist attacks last year. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has identified right-wing extremism as the most significant threat to the nation’s democratic framework, with the number of individuals associated with such groups growing to nearly 58,700. The coalition’s initiative seeks not only to assist victims but also to encourage citizens to maintain their commitment to democracy despite escalating hostility and aggression from far-right elements.
