Low Utilization of Paid Leave Among French Workers Despite Generous Entitlements
A recent study reveals that only 25% of French employees fully utilize their paid leave, despite having the highest average vacation days in Europe.
An analysis conducted by HR management platform Deel indicates that merely 25% of French workers take all their entitled vacation days, a stark contrast to other European nations. The study, which examined 160,000 validated leave requests from 17,500 employees across Europe, the UK, the US, Canada, and Mexico, found that French employees leave an average of six out of 34 vacation days unused each year. This phenomenon is described as a paradox, with cultural factors influencing leave behaviors. In comparison, 40-50% of workers in Norway, the UK, and Poland utilize all their vacation days. The study also highlights that the most popular vacation period in France is August, particularly around the Assumption holiday, while the week of Christmas sees the highest absenteeism, with 56% of employees absent on December 26.
