Lido Initiates $16 Billion Migration to Enhance Ethereum Validator Efficiency
Lido has commenced a significant upgrade, migrating over 8 million staked ether (approximately $16.5 billion) to optimize Ethereum’s validator framework.
This migration, the largest since 2023, aims to reduce Ethereum’s validator count by one-third and decrease attestation messages by about 29% per epoch, thereby alleviating pressure on the consensus layer. For the first time, Lido’s curated node operators will be required to post locked ETH bonds, introducing a new layer of economic accountability. Despite concerns regarding potential attrition among operators, all 34 existing curated operators are expected to transition to the new Curated Module v2 without any departures due to the bond requirement.
