Leeds United has announced the signing of 31-year-old goalkeeper Michael Zetterer from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, enhancing their goalkeeping options ahead of the new season. Zetterer has signed a three-year contract and will provide competition for current first-choice keeper James Trafford. The German international arrives at Elland Road after a successful season in the Bundesliga, where he made 22 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt. His performances included matches against top-tier teams such as Borussia Dortmund, contributing to the club’s eighth-place finish in the league. Zetterer also showcased his skills on the European stage, featuring five times in the UEFA Champions League, where he faced formidable opponents including Barcelona, Liverpool, and Napoli. Before joining Frankfurt, Zetterer had a decade-long tenure with Werder Bremen, where he made 80 appearances and kept 22 clean sheets. His time at Bremen included a promotion from the 2. Bundesliga in the 2021/22 season, marking a significant milestone in his career. Zetterer also gained valuable experience through loan spells at SK Austria Klagenfurt and PEC Zwolle in the Netherlands. Notably, Zetterer reunites with former teammate Ilia Gruev, with whom he played for two seasons at Bremen. This signing marks Zetterer as the sixth German player to represent Leeds United, following a trend that began in 2017 with the arrivals of striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga and goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald. Although Zetterer has yet to make his debut for the senior German national team, he has earned five caps for the Under-20 squad and has also played for the Under-21s. His addition is expected to bolster Leeds United’s ambitions in the upcoming season. Prepared and Edited by AboMatrix
