Irish Internet Hotline CEO Warns of Youth Grooming into Criminality

Mick Moran, CEO of the Irish Internet Hotline, has raised alarms about the grooming of children and adolescents into criminal behavior through online sexual extortion, particularly within a violent extremist group known as ‘The Com’.

Moran highlighted that young individuals are being manipulated into committing bizarre acts that lead to criminality, often under the threat of sharing compromising images. He noted that the offenders are frequently peers, aged around 13 or 14, who exploit the vulnerabilities of their contemporaries on platforms like Minecraft and TikTok. Child Neurological Developmental Therapist Ollwyn Moran emphasized the heightened susceptibility of adolescents to such grooming tactics, urging the need for safe communication channels between children and adults to address these issues.
