Green Youth Calls for Disruption of AfD Party Congress in Erfurt

Green Youth leaders vow to oppose the AfD’s Erfurt congress, citing the need to confront far-right extremism.

Luis Bobga, spokesperson for the Green Youth, announced the organization’s participation in planned disruptions against the AfD’s federal party congress in Erfurt this weekend. Bobga emphasized the importance of opposing far-right extremism, stating, ‘We must confront right-wing extremism with everything we have. Civil disobedience is our duty.’ He expressed solidarity with the antifascist alliance ‘Widersetzen,’ which plans blockades and protests during the event.

The AfD congress, set to elect new leadership, is expected to draw up to 50,000 demonstrators, according to Thuringian security authorities. Prominent figures, including Green Party co-chair Felix Banaszak and activist Luisa Neubauer, have urged peaceful protests. Banaszak called for unity and a strong democratic message, while Neubauer pledged to join sit-in blockades to delay the congress. Katrin Göring-Eckardt, a Green politician from Thuringia, described Erfurt as a ‘vibrant and open city’ and urged participants to celebrate democracy peacefully.
