Germany’s Digital Ministry Announces Multi-Billion Euro Investments in Telecommunications Infrastructure
The CDU-led Digital Ministry has outlined plans for telecommunications operators to invest approximately €8.5 billion in fiber optic networks and €2.4 billion in mobile networks in 2026.
These investments aim to facilitate the provision of around 5.6 million fiber optic connections for citizens, with approximately 3.1 million being immediately accessible. Currently, only 15 percent of customers utilize fiber optic connections, which are generally more expensive. Additional multi-billion euro investments are also planned for 2027 and 2028, indicating a long-term commitment to enhancing Germany’s telecommunications infrastructure.
