Germany Fund Initiates Investment in Raw Materials and Startups
The Germany Fund has commenced its first investments in raw material projects and startups, aiming to stimulate private investment with public funding.
Launched in late 2025, the Germany Fund plans to allocate approximately €30 billion in public funds to catalyze an estimated total investment of €130 billion over the coming years. The state development bank KfW will facilitate these initiatives through loans, equity participation, and state risk guarantees. Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil highlighted that investments will focus on artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and securing raw materials, while Economic Minister Katherina Reiche noted the government’s role in mitigating investor risk. Initial investments have targeted lithium and rare earth elements, with plans to increase funding for critical raw material projects to €1.5 billion by 2030.
