German Government Partially Meets Infrastructure Fund Objectives
The German government has reportedly failed to fully achieve its targets for the €500 billion special fund aimed at enhancing infrastructure and climate protection.
According to a monitoring report from the Finance Ministry, only €24 billion of the planned €37.2 billion was disbursed last year, with just 26 out of 109 milestones set for 2026 reached by the end of May. While the ministry described the initiative as having a ‘successful start,’ the overall progress indicator stands at 54%. Notably, investments in hospitals and sports facilities scored the highest at 90%, whereas no measurable advancements were noted in educational infrastructure. Despite these challenges, the ministry anticipates a short-term GDP increase of approximately 0.5 percentage points due to the fund’s expenditures.
