Friedrichshafen: Patient Allegedly Attempts to Suffocate Roommate in Clinic

A 41-year-old patient in a Friedrichshafen clinic allegedly attempted to suffocate his 85-year-old roommate with a blanket, prompting police intervention and an ongoing investigation.

In Friedrichshafen, Baden-Württemberg, a 41-year-old male patient reportedly attempted to suffocate his 85-year-old roommate in a clinic on Wednesday. According to statements from the police and public prosecutor’s office, the suspect was caught by nursing staff while pressing a blanket over the victim’s face. The victim, an elderly man, was physically unharmed during the incident.

The nursing staff intervened immediately, preventing the act and detaining the suspect until police arrived. Authorities noted that the suspect exhibited signs of a psychological disorder. Following his arrest, he was initially placed in a secure psychiatric facility before being transferred to a detention center. On Thursday, a judge issued a warrant for his detention at the request of the public prosecutor’s office.

The motive behind the alleged attack remains unclear, and investigations by the criminal police are ongoing. It is also uncertain whether the victim resisted during the incident. The suspect now faces charges of attempted homicide, and further inquiries are being conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.
