Florian Hager Secures Second Term as Head of Hessian Broadcasting

Florian Hager has been re-elected as the director of Hessian Broadcasting for a second five-year term, following a decisive vote by the broadcaster’s governing council.

Florian Hager, 50, will continue to lead Hessian Broadcasting after being re-elected by the broadcaster’s governing council on Friday. Hager, who has held the position since March 2022, received overwhelming support with 29 out of 30 votes in favor during the first round of voting. Notably, he was the sole candidate for the role, ensuring a straightforward election process.

During the council meeting, Hager outlined his vision for the future of Hessian Broadcasting, emphasizing the need for digital transformation, inclusivity across generations, and closer connections with local communities. He described the broadcaster as a platform where the identity of Hessen is showcased and stressed the importance of engaging directly with residents through regional studios. Hager also acknowledged the challenges facing public broadcasting, including financial constraints and evolving media consumption habits, while reaffirming his commitment to factual reporting and transparency.

In his second term, Hager plans to focus on maintaining the broadcaster’s independence, achieving financial stability, and streamlining organizational structures. He also hinted at spatial downsizing as part of the restructuring efforts. Hager expressed his passion for public broadcasting and his belief in its future, vowing to continue his work with determination and a strong connection to the region. His new term will run for five years, concluding in February 2027.
