EU Imposes New Sanctions on Russia Over Deportation of Ukrainian Children

The European Union has enacted sanctions against 16 individuals and seven organizations in response to the ongoing deportation of Ukrainian minors by Russia.

The sanctions, which include travel bans and asset freezes, target key figures involved in the alleged abduction of approximately 20,500 Ukrainian children since the onset of the conflict four years ago. Among those sanctioned is the head of a facility in Russia where these minors are reportedly housed. Many of these children have been forced to change their citizenship and are at risk of being put up for adoption. Despite international efforts, only about 2,100 of the abducted children have been successfully repatriated.
