DIW Study Reveals Decline in Germany’s Research-Intensive Industries’ Global Market Share
A recent study by the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) indicates that Germany’s research-intensive industries are losing competitiveness in the global market.
According to the analysis, Germany’s share of global exports of research-intensive goods has steadily decreased since 2015, dropping by approximately 15%. Despite maintaining a 10% share of global trade in this sector in 2024, the findings highlight a significant decline in Germany’s economic strength, traditionally bolstered by these industries. The study attributes this trend not only to China’s rise, which has increased its market share to 22%, but also to gains made by smaller European nations such as Denmark, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
