Controversial Proposal Removed from AfD Party Conference Agenda
A significant proposal to revise the AfD’s incompatibility list was unexpectedly removed from the agenda.
During the AfD party conference in Erfurt, a contentious proposal led by Thüringen state chairman Björn Höcke to revise the party’s incompatibility list was dismissed early on. The proposal aimed to redefine what constitutes ‘extremist’ and specifically labeled the Greens as an ‘anti-German organization.’
AfD leadership, including party chair Alice Weidel, deemed the timing of the proposal inappropriate, preferring not to engage in lengthy discussions about which extremists should be affiliated with the party. Before any debate could occur, Weidel offered a compromise, promising that the federal board would review the list within a year, which satisfied the proposal’s supporters and led to its removal from the agenda.
