Chrupalla and Weidel Re-elected as AfD Leaders Amid Protests
Tino Chrupalla and Alice Weidel have been re-elected as co-leaders of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party during a contentious party congress in Erfurt.
Chrupalla secured 70% of the votes, a decline from 82.7% in 2024, while Weidel received 81.3%, up from 79.8%. Both leaders faced no challengers, but reactions to Chrupalla’s speech were notably muted compared to Weidel’s, which drew significant applause.
Outside the venue, a protest incident occurred where a team of reporters from Apollo News was reportedly attacked by left-wing demonstrators, prompting condemnation from the party and applause from delegates.
