Bobga called for the removal of Germany flags, linking the sporting defeat to a rise in domestic violence. On Threads, he rhetorically questioned how many men might have taken out their frustration on their partners, adding that he was glad certain players missed their penalty shots.

Bavarian Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters) condemned Bobga’s comments, labeling him a ‘Germany-hater’ and comparing him to prominent Green Party figures like Katrin Göring-Eckardt. Aiwanger accused Green politicians of being ‘open enemies of their own country.’ FDP leader Wolfgang Kubicki also criticized Bobga, calling him ‘pathetic’ and emphasizing the importance of Germany’s flag as a symbol of democracy and constitutional values.
