Over 2,000 Participants Join Gen-Z Protest in Frankfurt for Education and Affordable Living
A large-scale Gen-Z demonstration took place in Frankfurt on Saturday, drawing over 2,000 participants to advocate for better education, affordable living, and climate protection.
The Gen-Z protest began on Saturday afternoon at Weseler Werft in Frankfurt, with an initial gathering of approximately 1,000 participants, according to police reports. The number later grew to 2,500 as demonstrators marched through the city center. Organized by initiatives ‘Generation Aufbruch’ and ‘Gen Z regelt,’ the protest aimed to address issues such as improved education, measures against rising living costs, enhanced climate protection, and opposition to mandatory military service.
The police deployed a large contingent at Weseler Werft in anticipation of the event, which had initially been planned as two separate demonstrations. However, organizers decided to merge the events into a single march through Frankfurt’s downtown area. Traffic disruptions were reported in the city center, and authorities advised motorists to avoid the area or use public transportation. Businesses in the vicinity, including luxury stores on Goethestraße, took precautionary measures by boarding up windows, while some chains temporarily closed their outlets.
Organizers emphasized their commitment to a peaceful demonstration, explicitly rejecting violence and pledging cooperation with authorities. Mubarik Sabir, one of the event’s registrants, stated that any participants engaging in disruptive behavior would be excluded. Despite assurances of a predominantly peaceful protest, the Interior Ministry noted concerns about the potential presence of approximately 80 individuals identified as violent left-wing extremists. Smaller protests were also reported in other cities across Hesse, including Kassel and Eschwege, as part of nationwide demonstrations in 30 cities.
