Berlin to Increase Drinking Water Prices Starting 2027
Residents of Berlin will face a slight increase in drinking water costs beginning January 1, 2027, following a decision by the supervisory board of the Berlin Water Utilities.
Starting January 1, 2027, the cost of drinking water in Berlin will rise by approximately six cents per cubic meter, bringing the price to €1.87 per cubic meter. This decision was announced by the Berlin Water Utilities after approval from their supervisory board. Additionally, the price for wastewater disposal will increase by around five cents, reaching €2.204 per cubic meter.
According to the Berlin Water Utilities, the price adjustment will result in minor monthly cost increases for residents. For an individual consuming an average of 113 liters of water daily, the additional expense will amount to approximately €0.36 per month. Despite the increase, Berlin remains one of the most affordable cities in Germany for water and wastewater services, ranking second nationwide after Frankfurt am Main among the 30 largest cities.
The price changes are pending final approval from the judicial administration. The Berlin Water Utilities emphasized that the city continues to maintain competitive rates for its water services, ensuring affordability for its residents while addressing operational and infrastructural needs.
