Needles Found in Halloween Candy in Rheinland-Pfalz and Saarland
A ten-year-old girl in Lünebach discovered a five-centimeter needle in a chocolate bar collected during Halloween, prompting police investigations.
A ten-year-old girl in Lünebach, located in the Eifel region of Rheinland-Pfalz, discovered a five-centimeter-long needle embedded in a chocolate bar she had collected during Halloween. The incident occurred on Monday when the child attempted to eat the candy. Fortunately, she noticed the needle in time and remained unharmed, according to a statement from the local police.
The girl had been out collecting Halloween treats on Saturday evening with a friend of the same age. Authorities have not yet identified who tampered with the candy. Police have urged the public to inspect Halloween sweets for puncture marks or foreign objects before consumption. Investigators are seeking witnesses and other potential victims to assist in their inquiry.
Similar incidents have been reported in other areas of Rheinland-Pfalz. In Mackenbach, a nine-year-old boy found a metal nail in a gummy candy, while in Ludwigshafen, a 29-year-old woman discovered a nail in a chocolate bar she had collected. Both individuals were unharmed. Police are treating these cases as suspected attempts of dangerous bodily harm. Reports of metal objects in Halloween candy have also emerged from nearly all other federal states, raising concerns about the safety of distributed treats.
