At EUROBIKE 2026 in Frankfurt, Taiwan has once again cemented its position as a global leader in sustainable mobility. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), the nation’s Bicycle and Health Technology Research and Development Center (CHC) unveiled a suite of cutting-edge innovations, underscoring its commitment to intelligent, low-carbon transportation solutions. Among the highlights is the revolutionary ‘AI Bike,’ a marvel of engineering that integrates artificial intelligence with advanced cycling technology to deliver an unparalleled riding experience.
The AI Bike, developed under the guidance of the Department of Industrial Technology (DOIT, MOEA), features a groundbreaking AI-powered image processing system. This technology analyzes road conditions in real time, issues safety alerts, and adjusts pedal assistance automatically, ensuring a safer and smarter ride. Built on the Cycling Common Protocol Alliance (CCPA) communication framework, the bike seamlessly connects its motor, controller, battery, and electronic suspension system. This integration enables adaptive support control, automatic gear shifting, and coordinated vehicle responses, significantly enhancing performance and rider comfort. Additionally, its dynamic suspension system intelligently switches between leisure and sport modes, optimizing stability and handling across diverse terrains.
Beyond technological advancements, CHC is driving sustainability in the cycling industry through its ambitious CO₂-neutrality program. Supported by the Industrial Development Administration (IDA, MOEA), this initiative equips manufacturers with tools to transition toward net-zero emissions. By implementing greenhouse gas inventories, optimizing production processes, and reducing material usage, the program is reshaping the industry’s environmental footprint. The Bicycling Alliance for Sustainability (BAS), a coalition of 76 member companies, has played a pivotal role in this transformation, achieving an impressive 89% implementation rate for greenhouse gas inventories. Through roadmaps, whitepapers, and global forums, BAS continues to champion decarbonization across the supply chain.
Another standout initiative is CHC’s Electric-Assist Bicycle Battery Passport Platform, designed to align with the European Union’s stringent battery regulations. This platform standardizes data management throughout the battery lifecycle, ensuring compliance with upcoming digital battery passport requirements. By proactively addressing international market demands, Taiwan is positioning itself as a trusted partner in the global green economy.
With its seamless fusion of advanced technology and sustainability-driven initiatives, Taiwan is not only redefining the future of cycling but also solidifying its role as a trailblazer in intelligent, eco-conscious mobility. EUROBIKE 2026 serves as a testament to the nation’s vision and innovation, setting a new benchmark for the global bicycle industry.
