ICE Detains 10,000 People in Five Days Amid Trump Administration Crackdown
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has intensified efforts, detaining 10,000 undocumented immigrants in just five days.
According to a report by The New York Times, ICE has ramped up its operations, doubling daily arrests to approximately 2,000 compared to earlier this year. This surge falls short of the administration’s target of 3,000 daily arrests set by Stephen Miller, a senior advisor to President Donald Trump. The new approach, implemented under Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, emphasizes less public visibility compared to earlier high-profile operations.
The White House has reportedly pressured ICE to maintain this pace, with directives to maximize staffing and extend work hours. A Homeland Security spokesperson stated, ‘Our message is clear: If you enter our country illegally, we will find you, arrest you, and deport you.’ Critics have raised concerns over the agency’s methods, including allegations of detaining individuals as gang members without sufficient evidence.
