Hesse’s Premier Calls for Tougher Measures Against Welfare Abuse
Boris Rhein demands stricter penalties for those obstructing job placement efforts.
Hesse’s Minister-President Boris Rhein (CDU) has called for stricter measures against individuals who deliberately obstruct efforts to integrate them into the workforce. In an interview, Rhein stated that ‘total refusers’ should face complete withdrawal of benefits, emphasizing the need for accountability in the social welfare system.
Rhein also expressed concerns about the financial implications of the recently announced tax reform by the federal government. He highlighted the strain on state budgets, particularly in Hesse, where annual tax shortfalls exceed two billion euros. Rhein criticized proposals like the sugar tax and early increases in tobacco taxes, warning that such measures could harm economic growth and burden businesses.
