Government Tax Reform: Will Relief Disappear?

The government’s tax reform promises families hundreds in savings, but the reality may be far less.

Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil enthusiastically announced a tax reform aimed at easing burdens for families, claiming an average relief of 600 euros. However, critics argue that many citizens may end up paying more due to rising social contributions.

Projected increases in payroll taxes could erode any benefits from the reform. For instance, a single earning 30,000 euros may see just 11 euros in annual savings by 2028, while higher earners could face losses. Experts warn that without addressing cold progression, the promised relief may fall short.
