Rwanda Confirms Talks with EU on Asylum Processing Centers
Rwanda is in discussions with European nations to establish centers for rejected asylum seekers.
Representatives from Germany and other European countries have confirmed ongoing negotiations with Rwanda regarding the establishment of so-called ‘Return Hubs’ for rejected asylum applicants. Rwanda’s Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe stated that discussions have indeed taken place, although he did not provide specific details or timelines.
The talks involve a coalition of countries, including Austria, Denmark, Greece, and the Netherlands, collectively referred to as ‘the implementers.’ They are exploring options for relocating individuals whose asylum requests have been denied in Europe. Italy has also expressed interest in a similar agreement with Rwanda.
