Miele CEO Critiques German Business Environment, Considers US Expansion
Markus Miele, CEO of the appliance manufacturer Miele, has expressed concerns regarding the sustainability of business operations in Germany due to bureaucratic inefficiencies and rising social costs.
In a recent interview, Markus Miele criticized the current business conditions in Germany, stating that the political landscape lacks the necessary urgency for reform. He highlighted issues such as bureaucratic red tape, taxation, infrastructure, education, and labor market inefficiencies, asserting that Germany’s productivity has stagnated while social contributions approach 50%. Miele indicated that the company might establish a new manufacturing facility in the United States, where it has already been producing ovens for two years, as the U.S. market presents significant growth potential. Despite ongoing challenges in the industry, Miele reported growth in both domestic and international markets during the first half of the year and confirmed that no new cost-cutting measures are planned, although the company continues to assess its operational strategy in response to global changes.
