International Security – Shifts in Europe’s Role in Global Conflicts: A Comprehensive Analysis
Recently, the European Center for Counter-Terrorism and Intelligence Studies (ECCI) in Germany and the Netherlands published a book titled “International Security – Shifts in Europe’s Role in Global Conflicts.” The book is part of a series authored by Jassim Mohammad, a leading researcher on international security and terrorism, in collaboration with the ECCI. It will be showcased at several international book fairs, including the Cairo International Book Fair as well as others in Muscat, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Riyadh, Kuwait, Baghdad, and Algiers.
The book will appear at the Cairo International Book Fair from January 21 to February 3, 2026, in Hall (1), Booth C40. It is published by the Arab Bureau of Knowledge, with contact available via +20 12 06077924 or malghaly@yahoo.com.
This book offers an expansive introduction to the profound changes reshaping the global order, prompting a rebalancing of power among international actors. It analyzes the evolving role of the European Union in confronting security and geopolitical challenges, examining the EU’s transition from mediator to active security actor, particularly in contexts such as the Ukraine conflict, disputes in Gaza, and efforts to revive the Iranian nuclear deal.
Regarding the Ukraine conflict, the book emphasizes Europe’s involvement in what is considered the most significant security test since the Cold War, highlighting its move to provide military support to Kyiv within NATO and joint defense policies. The book also explores Europe’s stance on the Gaza conflict, where internal divisions emerged between considerations of regional security, humanitarian commitments, and public pressure, revealing limitations in achieving unified foreign policy.
Additionally, the book delves into the intricate topic of Iran’s nuclear issue, one of the most complex matters in international relations. It highlights the European Troika’s (Germany, France, the UK) role in attempts to revive the nuclear agreement while balancing pressures from the U.S. and Iranian challenges in a volatile security environment that threatens a new nuclear arms race. Finally, the author outlines a foresight for the European Union within the international system, exploring aspirations for strategic independence versus constraints imposed by dependency on NATO and the United States.
