Berlin Government Restores Services After Cyberattack Disruption
Two Berlin Senate departments have fully reconnected their IT systems days after a cyberattack forced their isolation and disrupted key services.
The Berlin government announced Sunday evening that two Senate departments affected by a recent cyberattack are now fully reintegrated into the state IT network. The attack, first detected on August 14, led to the isolation of the Senate departments for Urban Development, Construction, and Housing, as well as Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection, and Environment, to protect against further threats.
During the downtime, several public services were severely impacted, including the ability to process housing benefits. Authorities have since implemented enhanced IT security measures to safeguard against potential future breaches. While most systems and services have now resumed operations, isolated disruptions or delays may persist as the transition continues.
Investigation into the cyberattack remains ongoing, with forensic experts committed to uncovering its origins and pathways. This effort is expected to extend over the coming weeks. The government emphasized its priority to strengthen system integrity and minimize vulnerabilities as part of broader cybersecurity initiatives.
