Opposition Leader Criticizes Government, Pushes for Euro Exit and Border Overhaul

Alice Weidel, co-leader of the AfD, launched a sharp critique of Germany’s political leaders, accusing them of dishonesty and pledging to withdraw Germany from the Euro and Schengen agreements under an AfD government.

Alice Weidel, the co-chair of Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, has issued scathing remarks against the country’s political establishment during a recent interview. She accused leading politicians of misleading the public and fostering policies that she claims are detrimental to Germany’s economic and social stability. Weidel asserted, ‘I will not tolerate incompetence or deceit from the government anymore,’ while calling out political figures such as Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil for their alleged failures.

Weidel outlined the AfD’s intentions to steer Germany away from the Euro and exit the Schengen Agreement if the party secures a governing position. She argued that the Euro has weakened Germany’s economy and contributed to widespread financial hardship among the working population. Citing a decline in wealth and currency stability, Weidel promised to restore economic strength by eliminating what she views as harmful international commitments.

On immigration, Weidel criticized lax border controls and pledged stricter measures, including the closure of Germany’s borders and withdrawal from the Schengen Agreement to curb the flow of migrants. She expressed frustration that refugees, particularly from Syria, were not being repatriated despite the end of the civil war. Highlighting her party’s surge in popularity, she dismissed the possibility of continued dominance by traditional political parties, forecasting significant gains for the AfD in future elections.
