Woman Sentenced for Supporting Terror Group Through Online Platform

A 43-year-old woman has been sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for aiding the Islamic State by organizing financial and ideological support for convicted members of the group.

A German court has sentenced Nadine D., a 43-year-old woman, to two years and nine months in prison for supporting the Islamic State (IS). The court found that she had used an online platform to collect donations for convicted IS members and their families, aiming to strengthen their allegiance to the extremist group. Nadine D., who converted to Islam in 2007, was described by the court as holding a deeply entrenched jihadist ideology, advocating for a caliphate and Sharia law as interpreted by IS.

Operating from Düsseldorf, Nadine D. ran the platform ‘Free our Sisters,’ which facilitated both material and ideological support for imprisoned jihadists and their relatives. Among her correspondents was Jennifer W., a woman previously convicted for her involvement with IS and complicity in the death of a young girl held as a slave in Iraq. Nadine D. reportedly raised thousands of euros through her platform, which were distributed to IS-affiliated individuals and their families. Despite her claims of innocence, witnesses testified that her activities were explicitly tied to IS support.

Authorities have noted the growing role of women in extremist networks, particularly in spreading propaganda and reinforcing ideological ties. Organizations like ‘Free our Sisters’ have been identified as key players in preventing the reintegration of convicted extremists into society. The case underscores the evolving dynamics within jihadist circles, where women increasingly take on influential roles in promoting extremist ideologies through digital platforms and social networks.
