European Parliament Unveils Key Findings on Democracy Protection Measures
The European Parliament is set to reveal critical findings and recommendations from the Special Committee on the European Democracy Shield during a press conference following a pivotal vote.
On June 23, 2026, the European Parliament in Brussels will host a press conference to discuss the findings of the Special Committee on the European Democracy Shield. The event follows a scheduled vote at 10:30 CEST, where committee members will finalize their report aimed at bolstering the EU’s defenses against foreign interference in democratic processes.
Rapporteur Tomas Tobé from Sweden and committee chair Nathalie Loiseau from France will address journalists at the Anna Politkovskaya press room. The press conference will provide insights into measures designed to enhance election integrity, support independent media, and improve civil preparedness against hybrid threats. Accredited media representatives are invited to attend in person, while remote participation will be facilitated through the Interactio platform.
The European Democracy Shield report represents the Parliament’s first comprehensive stance on combating foreign information manipulation and interference. It also evaluates the European Centre for Democratic Resilience, a key initiative aimed at strengthening the EU’s response to such threats. The Special Committee, established in December 2024, has had its mandate extended until February 2027 to continue assessing legislative measures related to safeguarding democracy in Europe.
