Crimea Faces Blackouts as Ukraine Intensifies Attacks

Half of Crimea experienced widespread power outages following Ukrainian air raids that targeted key infrastructure, including a thermal power plant in Kerch. The situation has exacerbated existing fuel shortages on the peninsula.

On Tuesday, Crimea was plunged into darkness as air raids by Ukraine resulted in electricity outages across half of the occupied peninsula. Reports indicate that the thermal power plant in Kerch was struck, leading to significant disruptions in power supply, particularly affecting regions such as Yevpatoria, Saky, and Dzhankoy.

Pro-Russian blogger Yuriy Podolyaka described the air raid as relatively weak but suggested that Ukraine is stockpiling missiles and drones for a larger offensive. He noted ongoing attempts to weaken Russian air defenses, particularly around the strategically important Crimean bridge, which remains a focal point of Ukrainian strikes.

In addition to power outages, Crimea is facing severe fuel shortages, with authorities implementing a complete ban on fuel sales over the weekend. The transport of fuel across the Crimean bridge has been halted due to fears of Ukrainian attacks, leaving Russia reliant on land supply routes that are vulnerable to drone strikes. The combination of these factors has heightened tensions and uncertainty in the region.
