Irish Construction Sector Thrives Amid Data Centre Boom

Ireland’s construction industry is experiencing significant growth, driven by the increasing demand for data centres linked to artificial intelligence advancements.

John Paul Construction, a Dublin-based firm, has diversified its operations to focus on data centres, now constituting 40% of its revenue, primarily from European projects. Chief Executive Liam Kenny noted ongoing large-scale projects in the UK and Germany, with hopes for a resurgence in the Irish market. Other firms, such as Sisk and Kirby, have long been involved in building hyperscale data centres across northern Europe. Smaller suppliers like Clad Pad are also benefiting, with expectations of €10 million turnover from data centre contracts. Despite a previous moratorium on new data centre connections due to energy concerns, the Irish government is now promoting the sector. The Central Bank anticipates that global AI investment will reach $800 billion by 2028, indicating a broader economic impact on Ireland’s construction and energy sectors.
