Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla Re-elected as AfD Leaders
Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla have been re-elected as co-chairs of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party during the federal party convention in Erfurt.
Weidel improved her support to 81.3%, while Chrupalla received 70.05%, a decline from two years ago. Both leaders were unopposed and reaffirmed the party’s dual leadership structure.
Weidel criticized Chancellor Friedrich Merz in her speech, receiving enthusiastic applause for her commitment to strict deportations. The convention, ongoing until tomorrow, faces significant protests, with thousands demonstrating outside.
