Authorities ended a controversial demonstration in Berlin after children were seen tied together during a reenactment at the Aschura observance.

The event, held on Saturday amid temperatures nearing 40 degrees Celsius, involved children in a dramatic portrayal of historical abductions, prompting outrage from officials and the public.

Berlin’s Interior Senator Iris Spranger condemned the use of children in such demonstrations, stating it endangered their welfare and was unacceptable in a democratic society.
