The Fusion of Sport and Music

Held at the Church of the Twelve Apostles in Schöneberg, this innovative event replaces the usual TV commentary with real-time musical improvisation. Spectators are not merely passive viewers; they engage with the match through a dynamic soundtrack performed by Bothmer, who utilizes the church organ and his unique CineTonium keyboard. This approach transforms the football match into a cinematic spectacle, where each play is accompanied by a corresponding musical theme that enhances the emotional intensity of the game.

A New Era for Football Spectating

The concept, termed a ‘Football Concert’, aims to create an immersive experience that intertwines sport with live performance art. Bothmer’s interpretation of fast breaks, fouls, and goals through shifting musical styles adds a layer of excitement that traditional broadcasts lack. The recent 7-1 victory of Germany exemplified this, providing ample opportunities for dramatic crescendos and exhilarating musical passages. With plans for similar performances throughout the World Cup, this initiative is set to become a hallmark of Berlin’s cultural landscape.
