IAB Reports Weakest Employment Outlook in Germany Since Pandemic
The Institute for Employment Research (IAB) has indicated a pessimistic employment outlook in Germany, the lowest since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The IAB’s monthly employment barometer, which assesses employment trends and unemployment forecasts based on surveys of German employment agencies, recorded a value of 99.4 points in April, unchanged from the previous month. This figure indicates a neutral market condition, with a decline in the employment forecast component to 100 points, marking the weakest level outside the pandemic. Additionally, 20 out of 146 agencies cited the Iran conflict as a contributing factor to anticipated rising unemployment, which currently stands at 6.4 percent, despite a decrease of 49,000 unemployed individuals from February to March.
