This visit comes in the wake of a two-week ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran, which was contingent upon the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Notably, U.S. representatives Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are expected to engage in negotiations with Iranian officials, although direct meetings between U.S. and Iranian representatives are not planned. Concurrently, the Lebanese government reports nearly 2,500 fatalities due to the conflict with Israel, highlighting the broader humanitarian impact of the ongoing hostilities.
